About Imitation Bamboo in general

What exactly is Imitation Bamboo?
It is PVC pipe that has been specially enhanced to imitate real bamboo. With its nodes, striations, coloring and varying thicknesses it reaplces the authentic bamboo stalks that grow out of the ground.

What exactly is Bamfaux?
Bamfaux is the name for Imitation Bamboo, just like "the Law" is the name of the legal system.

What is the bell?
The bell is the widened edge of a 20' PVC pole. It allows two pieces of Bamfaux to be joined, one inside the other.

What is a node?
A node is where the bamboo shoot dropped its outer leaves and started a new growth period. It is represented on Imitation Bamboo or Bamfaux by a darker area that is slightly raised.

How close are the actual measurements of the Bamfaux?
There is a discrepancy between the advertised diameter and length.
The outer diameter is a more precise measurement and is held to tolerances. Inner diameter and wall thickness can vary from 2% to 10% and can vary from one pipe to the next. When ordering it is this inner diameter that is closest to the thickness you are requesting.
Accordingly, the length also varies.
Although the usual approximation states that Bamfaux is 20ft long it is never over 20ft nor exactly 20ft long. This maximum length makes it easy to estimate shipping costs as anything over 20ft long will incur an oversize fee. The original PVC delivered to our premises plus the addition of nodes are two factors that will cause the final Bamfaux pipe to be less than 20ft, sometimes by as much as an inch less, depending on the original length.
For a more detailed explanation of wall thicknesses, inner and outer diameters, try looking up PVC pipe dimensions on Google.

Is there a minimum order quantity, size or length?
Yes. You must order at least 1 x 10ft length or 1 x 20ft length.

What are the exotic Bamboo colors?
Basically, it is almost any color in your imagination. The actual exotic bamboo colors vary so widely from region or atmosphere or time of year or age of bamboo that the various exotic colors are almost interchangeable. These are not solid colors. All have the nodes and the usual striations of bamboo. The most popular is the original Bamboo color, or tan, and then a close second would be the green bamboo. Maybe a third would be black. After that there does not seem to a popular order: red, blue, yellow, yellow-striped, green-striped, brown.

Do colors cost extra?
We do not charge extra for the original color or the green. All other colors, whether striated or solid are an extra 10% to 20% extra.

When can I ask for a discount?
As soon as you order over 100 linear feet of Imitation Bamboo or Bamfaux. The minimum discount is 5%. If you order over 1,000 ft of Imitation Bamboo or Bamfaux, the discount will be 25%.

How does the weather affect Imitation Bamboo or Bamfaux?
Although it is believed that it could last as long as 5 to 7 years outdoors, only recently have we run our own test of the Imitation Bamboo that we manufacture. For the past 2 years, there has been no variation in the original Bamboo color. Our test pieces are in direct sunlight, rain, humidity and wind here in Interlachen, in the North Eastern end of Florida, while our control piece is kept indoors.

Ordering and Delivery

What kind of payment methods do you accept?
We accept Credit Card, eCheck and Debit Card (with logo) payments that we run through PayPal or AlertPay. We also accept Company / personal checks and USPS money orders. We do not mind whether you prefer to send email or pay by telephone as both options are available.

When must I pay for my order?
Your payment is due at time of order. Once your payment has been cleared your order will enter the manufacturing process.
Order over $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) we will allow a 50% deposit, payable at time of order. The 50% balance is due on request before we ship your order.

Is it safe to order with my credit-card on ImitationBamboo.net?
We use either the PayPal or AlertPay payment processors and both have above-standard buyer security protection.

Can I order from anywhere in the world?
We only advertise our Imitation Bamboo or Bamfaux within the borders of the contiguous United States of America. So far, exporting beyond our contiguous borders is too flexible in time of shipment, price and quality of received goods plus the costs of export taxes, duties and Carrier costs cannot be pre-quoted to our satisfaction. If you wish this item exported, it will be at your cost and at your risk.

When is the 2nd or last payment due?
Your second 50%, balance of order, or final payment, is due upon request. We usually ask for this last amount when we are ready to ship, or are ready to begin the packaging for shipping.

What happens if I don't pay 2nd or last payment in time?
You are given 30 days to make up the balance of your order. If, within this time, your payment is not forthcoming, we will re-stock your items for resale, and withhold the full deposit you paid to defray extra storage costs, wages, goods and services already paid or payable by us.

May I choose my own Shipper/Carrier?
Yes, you may. We ask that you confer with us as to the final size, weight and class of your shipment. Your shipper/Carrier might require this information up front. Once your final payment (if any) is paid, you may send your Carrier to our premises.

How do I claim my refund, if I'm not satisfied?
If you are not satisfied because of an error we made, we ask that you give us the option to correct our mistake within a reasonable time.
If you made an honest error and we agree, we will expect you to return the goods in good order. If we can resell the items, after inspection, we will refund you the full cost of the Bamfaux less 20% handling fees. No shipping, packaging, sales tax, or other costs will be refunded.

When can I not claim a refund?
If the color is not to your satisfaction, we cannot give you a refund. You are sent a sample of the color to expect before you placed your order. If you assumed the color was to your expectation according to the website, then I must remind you that all colors on the Internet, and every monitor, differ in shade and hue. Notoriously a monitor is not a good replication of color. This is not a good enough reason for you to renege on your part of our agreement.

Do you have after-sales support?
Yes, we do. If you have any questions or problems we will do our best to help you find a solution. We want you to be satisfied and happy with your purchase.

I have Imitation Bamboo or Bamfaux - Now what?

How do I send my order back to claim my refund?
Once it has been agreed that we will refund your order, it must be packed in its original wrapping or the original wrapping must be replaced as closely as possible to the original; namely bubble wrap, Kraft paper gauge 40, double single-fluted cardboard carefully taped together so that no tape touches the actual Bamfaux, carefully wrapped together so no gaps or open areas show, wrapped totally within shrink wrap to keep the outer edge smooth giving no other object a purchase on the outer edge. Take extra care over the extreme edges and wrap together the same number of Imitation Bamboo poles as we sent you. Ask your shipper to be extra careful if need be.
Send this ground which generally has less handling even though it takes longer to arrive.
Ensure the "To" and "From" addresses are both legible and large enough to be read easily so there is no confusion.
Do not leave wrapped parcels in the sun or in the rain before your Shipper collects them. Do not use a forklift on any of the parcels.
If your parcels do not arrive in good condition you will be sent photographs so that you can claim damages from your Shipper/Carrier for the balance that we will not pay you.

Is Imitation Bamboo Fireproof or Flammable?
Imitation Bamboo is neither flammable nor fireproof.
PVC does not catch alight, it melts from very high temperatures.
The paints we use over the PVC might be considered flammable. Generally it is only a very thin layer and would probably not catch alight, but we have no tests to prove it one way or the other. I would assume that it would be the same threat as the paints on your walls.

Do I need special hardware to cut it?
No, a simple plastic saw available from your hardware store, or a saw available in almost any handyman's garage, would be able to cut through the plastic PVC.

Can I join two pieces of Imitation Bamboo or Bamfaux?
Yes, there are two ways to do this.
You might be able to use the bell end of one pipe to cover the one end of another pole so that they form one long pipe. Use plastic glue if you wish to ensure the edges remain together and/or retain fluids.
Another way is to glue the two edges of Bamfaux together if they are both the same size. This method requires that both edges are smooth and exactly aligned before you apply glue.
